Returns, Refunds & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: 8 September 2026

This policy applies to consumer purchases made from Homework Handmade through our website and, where relevant, at in-person markets or events. It does not affect your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

Online orders: your right to cancel

For most products bought online, you have the legal right to cancel your order without giving a reason.

You must tell us that you wish to cancel within 14 days after the day you, or someone nominated by you, receives the product. If your order is delivered in separate parts, the 14-day period starts when the final part is received.

After telling us that you wish to cancel, you must return the product within a further 14 days.

To cancel or request a return, email us at [email protected]. Please include your name, order number, the product you wish to return and the reason for contacting us. You may also send any other clear written statement telling us that you wish to cancel.

Returns for change of mind

Returned items should be unused, in their original condition and, where reasonably possible, in their original packaging. You may inspect and handle an item in the same way that you would reasonably be allowed to do in a shop.

We may reduce your refund if the value of the item has been reduced because it has been handled more than necessary to check its nature, characteristics and function.

Please contact us before sending anything back so that we can give you the correct return instructions. Do not send returns to a manufacturer or supplier.

Items that cannot normally be returned for change of mind

Unless the item is faulty, damaged, not as described or otherwise covered by your statutory rights, cancellation or change-of-mind returns may not apply to:

  • Personalised, custom-made or made-to-order items.
  • Items made to your specifications or clearly personalised for you.
  • Items that are liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly.
  • Sealed items that are not suitable for return for health protection or hygiene reasons, once unsealed.
  • Digital content once downloading or streaming has started, where you expressly agreed to immediate supply and acknowledged that you would lose your right to cancel.

These exclusions do not limit your rights if an item is faulty, damaged, not as described or not fit for purpose.

Faulty, damaged or incorrect items

Under UK consumer law, items must be of satisfactory quality, fit for their intended purpose and as described.

If your item is faulty, damaged, incorrect or not as described, please contact us as soon as possible at [email protected]. Please include your order number and, where helpful, photographs showing the issue.

You may have a legal right to reject qualifying faulty goods and receive a full refund within 30 days of receiving them. After this period, you may be entitled to a repair, replacement, price reduction or refund depending on the circumstances.

We will cover reasonable return costs where an item is faulty, damaged, incorrect or not as described.

Refunds

For a valid cancellation or accepted return, we will refund the price paid for the returned item and the cost of our least expensive standard delivery option, where applicable.

If you chose a more expensive delivery method, such as express delivery, we are not required to refund the additional amount above standard delivery.

We will issue the refund without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we receive the returned item or you provide evidence that you have sent it back, whichever happens first.

Refunds will normally be made to the original payment method. We do not charge a refund administration or restocking fee.

Depending on your bank or payment provider, it may take additional time for the refund to appear in your account after we have processed it.

Return postage

For change-of-mind returns, you are responsible for the direct cost of returning the item unless we have agreed otherwise or UK law requires us to cover the cost.

Please package returned items securely. We recommend obtaining proof of postage and using a tracked service for valuable items. You remain responsible for the return until it reaches us, except where we arrange collection or provide the return service.

In-person market purchases

For items bought in person at a market, pop-up or event, we do not normally offer change-of-mind refunds unless we have agreed otherwise. Your statutory rights still apply if an item is faulty, damaged, not as described or not fit for purpose.

Exchanges

If you would like a different item, size or colour, please contact us. Exchanges are subject to availability. In some cases, the quickest option may be to return the original item for a refund and place a new order.

Sale and promotional items

Sale, discounted and promotional items have the same statutory rights as full-price items. A discount does not affect your rights where an item is faulty, not as described or not fit for purpose.

Gifts

Refunds are normally returned to the original payment method used by the purchaser. If you received an item as a gift, please contact us before returning it so that we can explain the available options.
